UNINTENDED JOURNEY

book_mockup_SHOP.png

YOU THINK YOU’RE “EMPTY-NESTERS”...

...until the birds return with a vengeance. Now, you’re raising your children’s children, and — in the case of Jordan Shields — their children, too.

In Jordan’s new book, discover the “skipped-generation” journey of grandparents who open their homes, hearts and minds to raising their great grandkids. It’s a journey where unconditional love meets unmitigated madness. It’s a journey that’s more common than you think — often hidden and overlooked. Buckle-up — this journey is a rollercoaster ride.

WHAT SEEMS SIMPLE

As a parent, you’ve done this before.... Except you’re older, resentful and probably less patient. And that was then — before social media, wokeness, gender fluidity, revitalized racism, myriad social and sports distractions, weaponized school boards, protective legislation, school violence and the seeming erasure of definable boundaries of behavior and responsibility existed.

Statistics show that 27 million children in the United States are being raised by grandparents, referred to as the “Skipped Generation”.... In California, it is estimated that 234,000 children are in the care of grandparents.... And that’s just what’s reported.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jordan and Kathy Shields have been raising two of their great grandchildren for twelve years and counting. During this time, Jordan received his MA and MFA in Creative Writing while continuing to run a large business.

This book began as a writing assignment, but turned into a quest to help other “skipped generation” families form a community where they can collaborate, communicate and commiserate with each other, to better help themselves and the children they are surprisingly raising.
